Democrats deflating?

I'm fishing for some comments with this post. Does anyone else feel the wind completely leaving the Kerry/Donk sail? I want to make sure this feeling isn't just me because I'm a Republican who is pumped up by the convention right now. It just seems like there is silence from the left when I would expect attacks, debate, or snide remarks. I see more and more interviews where Donks get caught with a question that is very tough to answer, and they greet it with silence before answering. And finally, the TV talking heads who I expect to be hyper critical haven't been. In addition, there was nothing that came out of the Donk convention that caused me the slightest worry. I see several things coming out of the Republican convention that would make me worry if I were a Democrat. Please, do the comment thing. I'm curious.

I think of it as a lull. For two reasons.

1. The reason the Dems chose Kerry is he is a "war hero". They could not run any other way. This is one reason why they floated McCain as VP. Their most vocal base are anti-war. They need, have to, project themselves as warriors against war as a solution. That appeals to their pacifist base, the naive millions who still think the Democrats are anti-war for some other reason than being anti-West, anti-capitalist, anti-American.
RESULT: Can't attack McCain, the victims of 9/11, or Guiliani who is a hero with New Yorkers.
Media can't attack these either without involving the Dems in the fray.

2. The Kerry campaign is momentarily distracted by their own disorganization after Swift Boat Veterans exposed some real fractures in the media monopoly. They counted on the 527s to monopolize the internet as well. (Honest, they are that dumb.) This has sidelined the party temporarily. As for the media, they are, I believe, stunned by the effectiveness of the Internet and are regrouping as well. (The Michelle Malkin thing, the expose of the unwillingness of the media to be truthful about their candidate, etc.) There's also the belief that Kerry isn't going over as well with Democrats as they thought. He's a hard sell, even with the cheerleading press who are terrified of rooting the losing team.
RESULT: Regroup until the solution is suggested either in a New York Times editorial, E.J. Dionne column, or Ron Brownstein of the Los Angeles Times. These are traditional signals to the Dems.

In the meantime: Truly, it is sad to say, I think they are hoping the war takes a bad turn so they can say, "I told you so." Then, no criticism is necessary -- The Republicans are deluded.
