You can find this video just about everywhere right now, but if you haven't seen it, check it out. The way the bridge collapsed may have saved lives. It looks like the main span comes down in one piece, reducing the chance of cars being caught under debris. It comes down fast, but the structure may have supported just enough as it came down to reduce the injuries that should have resulted from a 60 foot fall. Finally, the bridge was not as packed with cars as it could have been, and that surely saved lives.
As an aside, I agree with what some Twin Cities residents are saying about that bridge...it really did provide an incredible view as you entered a city with a wonderful skyline. It is too bad that a bridge that served the city so well was not taken care of better.
