If you haven't heard (and you probably haven't), roller derby is back. Madison has a roller derby squad, and this Saturday night they have a contest scheduled in Madison with a team from Arizona. I grew up watching the old fashioned, fakey roller derbies on ESPN with my dad, and if it weren't for the Badger Blog Alliance Christmas party that day, I'd probably go to it. Why? Curiosity. This doesn't seem to be my father's roller derby. Go to the Mad Rollin' Dolls web page and look at the pictures titled "Hurt in a skirt." These Roller Derby Queens pay for their sport with some serious bumps and bruises.
