It was very tempting to head to the Brewers game tonight to vote with my chest for the old M-B glove logo (see background here). The Brewers had success under that logo, but that isn't why I miss it. I miss the glove logo because it was incredibly clever. I didn't catch the M-B arrangement until I was in my teens, and I've been a Brewer fan since I was 6 in 1982. The lovely Mrs. Jib did not see it until I filled her in on it, and she was in her early 20's. I have a throw back yellow & blue hat with that logo proudly displayed on it. And I was heart broken when the Brewers turned their back on it.
I want the M-B glove logo back. I like the barley sprig on the current logo, and I really like the spring training logo with the outline of Wisconsin in the background, but nothing tops that glove. I will make one concession to the detractors, though. The yellow and blue look is tough for some to swallow. Especially when it comes to those old baby blue pull over jerseys. So I think a nice compromise would be the Brewer pinstripes. The Brewers' pin striped jerseys were sharp and stately. Making this into a slightly modified third jersey would pull on my heartstrings, and those of a lot of other fans of the team. I think the addition can only be a positive for a team that may be seeing its newest Yount-Gantner turning double plays in the form of Hardy-Weeks.
