Bush fans should be okay with McCain?

UCLA Professor of Policy Studies Mark Kleinman looks at John McCain over at the HuffPo:

The only real disagreement between George W. Bush and John McCain was over which of them was going to get to be President first. Now, after McCain's parade of "independence" - which was always more shadow-play than substance - they're coming together. That will be fine with Bush's fans. But how about McCain's?

Wasn't it his integrity they claimed to admire?

What? How did this goof come to the conclusion that anything McCain does would ever be fine with "Bush fans"? Most Bush supporters tend to have a long and deep animosity towards McCain. He does manager to eek out a decent point, which is that McCain is sacrificing his 'maverick' image a little in order to try to position himself better for the primaries, but he destroys the value of that point with his foolish statement about what Bush fans would be fine with. He makes himself look sufficiently out of touch with the workings of the Republican party as to make his points easily dismissable. But then again, he is is an academic. I guess being out of touch is to be expected. Plus, I guess "out of touch" plays well with the HuffPo target readership.
