The Lieberman fiasco

This is predictable, but internet liberals are going crazy over Joe Lieberman's decision to have a back up plan to run as an independent-Democrat if he loses the Connecticut primary. This alone gives me pause when it comes to the Democrats chances of taking any majorities this fall. Joe Lieberman has a solidly liberal record. As of this writing, he is still polling as the leader in the primary. This is a liberal Democrat who should be in no jeopardy of loosing his seat. Bush Derangement Syndrome is at such a fever pitch amongst internet liberals, though, that they are ready to cannibalize Lieberman. A party that is torn between a traditional base and a rabid (some might say foaming at the mouth) new base-to-be is going to find it awfully tough to please both its fractured components and uncommitted voters in general elections.
