If you work off the assumption that Kerry won this debate, then three advantages pop up for Bush. The first is that this debate has a shelf life as a story of less than 24 hours. Once Friday night rolls around, it will begin to quickly filter out of people's minds. Second, Cheney will stem any bleeding on Tuesday by crushing Edwards. This just looks like a total mismatch. Next, the townhall debate occurs on a Friday. That makes it almost a non-story before it even starts. A lot of people will not pay any attention to that miserable format.
This leads me to wonder if the Bush team can pull of the old Ali rope-a-dope. Absorb body blows now, and then crush Kerry late, at the Wednesday debate. If Bush can do that, he'll get two days of wonderful press that will put him into cruise control with a nice lead heading into November.

We'll have to see - I don't think Cheney will crush Edwards. I think it will be the other way around.
But we can only wait and watch. I have a great respect for the Republican campaign team. They have a superb 'reactionary' response team. I am sure that they will come back strong. In fact, I fear that.
